Alcove is a macOS utility by the Swedish independent developer Henrik Ruscon that turns the notch of a MacBook into a Dynamic Island like the one on iPhone: media controls, system HUDs, notifications and live activities appear in one animated overlay at the top of the screen. It is made for people who use a MacBook with a notch, or any Mac with an external display, and want to see at a glance what is playing, the battery of their AirPods and the next events without opening extra windows. The island expands only when something happens or when the pointer hovers over the notch, then fades back. On a display without a cutout it takes the shape of a pill or of a simulated notch, so an iMac, a Mac mini or an external monitor get the same overlay.

How to Activate:

1. Download Alcove from the developer's website, move it to the Applications folder, open it and complete the short onboarding that asks for the needed permissions.
2. Click the Alcove icon in the menu bar, open Settings and select the License tab.
3. Enter the license key received by email and confirm; an internet connection is needed for the check.
4. The trial limits disappear at once; the same tab lists the Macs linked to the license and lets you deactivate one before moving the license.
